Forehead & Frown Lines Treatment in Islington
Forehead and frown lines start as part of everyday expression such as raising an eyebrow, furrowing your brow in concentration, or frowning. For a while, they disappear the moment you relax. But over time, the lines begin to linger even when your face is completely still. They make you look tired, stern, or permanently worried.
However, these lines usually respond well to a tailored treatment.

What Causes Forehead Lines?
Forehead lines are the horizontal creases that cross the brow. They're caused by the frontalis which is a broad, flat muscle that runs vertically from the hairline down to the brow. Every time you raise your eyebrows the frontalis contracts and this pulls the brow upward, creating horizontal folds in the skin. Over time those folds begin to leave a permanent trace.
What makes treating the forehead more complex is that the frontalis is also the primary muscle responsible for keeping the brow elevated. If your anti-wrinkle injection reduced its activity too aggressively it can cause brow heaviness or drooping. This which is why experienced practitioners approach this area with care and precision rather than simply eliminating all movement.
What Causes Frown Lines — the '11s'?
Frown lines are the vertical creases that appear between the eyebrows during concentration, frowning, or squinting. Often called the '11s' or glabellar lines, they're created by three muscles working in coordination:
-
The corrugator supercilii pulls the eyebrows inward and downward and this is the primary driver of the vertical furrow.
-
The procerus is a small pyramid-shaped muscle at the nose bridge that pulls the inner brows downward, contributing to the bunching at the glabella (the skin between your eyebrows).
-
The medial orbicularis oculi is the inner portion of the eye's circular muscle, which adds compression during squinting.
With repeated movement over time, these lines begin to be visible at rest. Once that happens the dynamic lines transition to static lines. This means that relaxing the muscles is often insufficient because the skin's structure has changed.
Will Forehead and Frown Lines Get Progressively Worse?
Without intervention, dynamic lines tend to deepen progressively. How quickly depends on genetics, sun exposure history, skin type, and how animated your natural expressions are.
Lines are much easier to slow or prevent through treatment than to reverse. Once structural skin damage is established in a crease, the work required to improve it is substantially greater.
This is why early assessment and early treatment, where appropriate, tends to produce better, longer-lasting results.

What Treatments Work for Forehead and Frown Lines?
Prescription only treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for expression lines, helping to prevent dynamic wrinkles from becoming deeper. Static lines. Best suited for dynamic and early static wrinkles.
An injectable treatment containing amino acids and hyaluronic acid that stimulates collagen and elastin production while improving skin hydration. For early skin ageing, Find static lines, and reduced skin quality.
A regenerative treatment neck supports cellular repair, improves skin quality, and stimulates collagen production. Best suited for sun damaged, thinning or structurally weakened skin.
Creates controlled micro injuries within the skin to stimulate collagen production. And improve texture over time. Particularly effective for fine lines, enlarged pools, acne scarring, and overall skin rejuvenation.
Medical grade acid carefully selected for your skin type and conditions, gently exfoliates the skin to encourage cell turnover, brighten the complexion, and improve superficial lines. Best for sun damage, pigmentation, dull skin, and find surface wrinkles.
A personalised skin care routine using ingredients such as retinoids, vitamin C, peptides, and daily SPF helps maintain results, improve skin quality, and slow the development of future lines. Suitable for all clients and all stages of skin ageing.

Which Areas Are Most Commonly Affected?
Forehead and Frown Lines
Driven by frontalis and corrugator muscle activity. Often the earliest lines to develop and among the most amenable to preventive treatment.
Crows Feet
Caused by the orbicularis oculi, one of the most active muscles in the face. The periorbital skin is also thinner and more vulnerable than skin elsewhere, so these lines tend to develop faster.
Nasolabial Folds
Primarily caused by mid-face volume loss and gravitational descent, compounded by repeated muscle activity. This is a natural anatomical feature that becomes more pronounced with age.
Marionette Lines
Driven by a combination of pre-jowl volume loss and the downward pull of the depressor anguli oris muscle, which can make the face read as sad or stern at rest.
Perioral Lines
Vertical lines above and below the lip caused by repeated orbicularis oris contraction and the specific structural vulnerabilities of the perioral skin.
Why the Injector's Expertise Matters in This Area
The forehead and glabellar region sits very close to the orbital circulation including the supratrochlear and supraorbital arteries, which run near the upper orbital rim and connect to the ophthalmic vascular system.
In rare cases, incorrect product placement in the glabellar region has been linked to serious complications, including vascular compromise and, in the most severe reported cases, changes to vision.
Beyond vascular risk, the forehead requires a precise balance in order to reduce muscle activity while preserving the natural brow lift. If the dose is too aggressive in the frontalis, without appropriate correction of the brow depressors, you may leave the brow feeling heavy or lowered. Achieving a smooth forehead while maintaining natural brow position and an appropriate range of expression takes both anatomical knowledge and genuine clinical judgement.
