Is SuneKos the Best Skin-Booster Injectable Available Today?

I have tried this product, and I really like the results. In my opinion, it is one of the best injectable skin boosters on the market. In this blog, I will explain what it does and why patients in Islington are opting for this product.

Why are my Islington patients interested in SuneKos?

SuneKos doesn't have the same hype as many other products. It isn't as mainstream as some filler and anti-wrinkle brands, but at Refind Aesthetics in Angel, Islington, SuneKos is becoming a popular treatment because it is relatively painless, has very little downtime, and most clients see good results.

Why is SuneKos popular with aesthetic practitioners?

Before I can properly explain what SuneKos does, I need to talk about something called the extracellular matrix — or ECM.  The extracellular matrix is the complex structural scaffolding that surrounds and supports the cells of your skin.  Its biologically active environment regulates cell behaviour, supports tissue repair and helps maintain the skin's firmness, elasticity, and resilience.

The primary components of the EMC are collagen and elastin fibres that reside within a gel-like substance rich in proteoglycans, including the infamous hyaluronic acid for volume.

The bad news is that from our mid-twenties onwards, the ECM begins to deteriorate.

Collagen production slows down by approximately one per cent per year after the age of twenty-five. This deterioration increases after the menopause.

The elasticity of the skin deteriorates as the elastin fibres fragment and lose their function.

Both are linked to deteriorating fibroblast activity which not only causes the collagen and elastin reduction but also reduces the effectiveness tissue repair.

In addition, the proteoglycan content declines, and the gel-like matrix that once kept skin plump, hydrated, and structurally sound becomes thinner and less effective at retaining moisture.

The result: you start to see wrinkles, the skin becomes less firm, it looks dull, and it develops a crepey quality that appears in the delicate areas around the eyes and neck.

Most conventional aesthetic treatments address the symptoms of ECM degradation rather than the underlying biology - this usually means  dermal fillers to restore volume and Botox to relax the muscles that create dynamic lines. Both are effective, but they do not address the ECM deterioration.

SuneKos takes a very different approach. It targets the ECM directly, delivering the biochemical components needed to restore its function and stimulate its regeneration.

What Is Actually In The SuneKos?

This product has been developed by scientists with a detailed understanding of the skin. SuneKos contains two active components: a specific molecular weight of hyaluronic acid and a patented blend of six amino acids. Each element is selected for a precise biological purpose. Together they create a synergistic effect more powerful than either could achieve in isolation.

Why the molecular weight of the hyaluronic acid matters.

Hyaluronic acid binds to  water (up to 1,000 times its own weight in moisture) and gives your skin volume. It is the  principal component of most dermal fillers. However, in fillers, the hyaluronic acid is slightly modified to form a thicker gel that resists natural degradation. This means  it lasts longer and add volume in the pricise location it is injected.  However, this product does not stimulate cellular activity. It occupies space but cannot support the EMC.

SuneKos uses low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid that behaves very differently. Because of its reduced molecular size, the hyaluronic acid in SuneKos penetrates tissue and interacts directly with cell-surface receptors, particularly CD44 receptors on fibroblasts. This receptor interaction activates the fibroblast, triggering a cascade of cellular responses that include an increase in collagen and elastin synthesis.

SuneKos has an extra element - the six amino acids that are the precise building blocks of collagen and elastin - glycine, L-proline, L-leucine, L-lysine, L-valine, and L-alanine.  This means that SuneKos not only encourages fibroblasts to produce more elastin and collagen, it actually provides the raw materials needed to produce them correctly. These fibres integrate into the existing ECM, gradually restoring its density, organisation, and mechanical properties. In scientific terminology, this is called bioremodelling.

The process is not instantaneous because collagen and elastin synthesis takes time so the results from SuneKos develop progressively over the weeks following treatment. But our clients report that the improvement is real and not superficial.

Is SuneKos a substitute for Dermal Fillers?

These treatments operate on entirely different biological principles, addressing entirely different aspects of the ageing process.

Dermal fillers restore the appearance of volume and structure lost to the ageing process, but they do not treat the underlying biological decline.

SuneKos does not replace lost volume. Instead, it activates fibroblasts and supplies the amino acids needed for collagen and elastin synthesis.

For a patient with significant structural volume loss, such as hollowed temples, deeply sunken tear troughs, and severely deflated cheeks, there is no doubt that dermal filler remains the most effective tool.

However, for a patient whose primary concerns are skin quality issues such as dullness, fine lines, crepiness, and loss of elasticity, SuneKos is the right treatment.

For most of the patients I see at Refind Aesthetics, a combination treatment plan is an excellent option. This is a thoughtfully sequenced combination of both: SuneKos to restore the tissue's biological health and targeted filler to address any residual structural concerns.

Is SuneKos better than Profhilo?

Both stimulate collagen and elastin production. But the science behind the treatments is very different.

Profhilo also contains hyaluronic acid. This time, there are two difference molecular weights  held together in a thermally bonded (rather than chemically cross-linked) complex called NAHYCO. This bonding technology creates a product that, when injected at specific anatomical points, disperses extensively through the surrounding tissue rather than remaining localised.

The high-molecular weight hyaloronic acid binds to the CD44 recportors to activate anti-inflammatory pathways and hydration pathways. The low molecular weight interactors with toll-like receptors (TLR2 and TLR4). Once activated this sets of a regenerative response which includes collagen and elastin production.

The combination of these two interactions drives what Profhilo describes as its fourfold bio-stimulation effect.

The critical difference with these two products is the amino acid component of SuneKos. Profhilo relies entirely on hyaluronic acid-mediated receptor signalling to prompt fibroblasts to increase their synthetic activity. SuneKos takes an additional step by supplying the specific amino acid substrates required to carry out that synthesis.

Whether this translates to meaningfully superior clinical outcomes in all cases is a question yet ot be answered. What is clear is that the amino acid component gives SuneKos a particularly strong profile for patients with significant collagen depletion, in which fibroblasts may be activated by receptor signalling but operate in a tissue environment too substrate-depleted to respond optimally without additional support.

Is SuneKos better than Traditional Skin Boosters?

Traditional skin boosters have been around for over a decade. Products like Restylane Vital and Juvederm Hydrate deliver hyaluronic acid into the superficial dermis to improve hydration and radiance. They are classified as skin boosters rather than volumising dermal fillers.

Traditional skin boosters add hyaluronic acid to the proteogycan content of the EMC. The advantage of this is an improved mosture retention. There is some stimulation of the fibroblast through CD44 signalling, but these products do not supply the amino acids to help with the collagen and elastin production so this reponse is very limite.  The primary benefit is hydration and a temporary improvement in skin texture and radiance.

SuneKos creates the conditions for genuine ECM restoration rather than temporary hydration. The fibroblasts receive both the signal to increase synthetic activity and the raw materials. New collagen fibres are laid down, elastin production increases and the structural scaffold of the dermis begins to improve.

Who Is SuneKos Actually For And What Areas Can It Treat?

Several types of clients benefit most from SuneKos:

1.  SuneKos is most useful for patients whose primary concern is skin quality rather than structural volume.

2. It is effective as a preventive treatment because it slows the visible progression of age-related skin changes.

3. It is excellnt option for under-the-eye concerns where SuneKos 200 does not add volumetric bulk and is purely regenerative, resulting in improved skin quality, reduced crepiness, and improved appearance of dark circles.

When to use SuneKos 200 and when to use SuneKos 1200?

There are two formalations of Sunekos.

SuneKos 200 contains lower-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, giving it a lighter, more fluid consistency. This means it can be injected with a fine needle into the superficial dermis, making it ideal for delicate areas where precision is paramount: the periocular region, the fine lines of the forehead and perioral area, and the exceptionally thin skin of the under-eye.

SuneKos 1200 uses a higher-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, producing a thicker formulation that is typically administered via cannula into the deeper dermal and subdermal layers, making it more appropriate for patients with deeper wrinkles, more significant skin laxity, and greater structural change.
