Learn how microneedling helps smooth skin and can improve texture, tone, and radiance with minimal downtime.

Rediscover Smooth, Radiant Skin

Dullness, uneven texture, or fine lines can make an impact on your complexion making it look tired. That’s where microneedling can help. Unlike fillers, this process uses your skin’s own renewal mechanisms and help make your skin have smoother texture, more tone and renewed luminosity — all with minimal disruption to your routine.

At Refind Aesthetics, each procedure is tailored with medical precision and a sound knowledge of anatomy to help your skin rebuild strength and radiance naturally. The result - skin that feels revitalised and looks fresher.

What Microneedling Is and How It Works

Microneedling is a clinically backed treatment that uses a device fitted with fine, sterile needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. These micro-injuries activate the body’s healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin — the essential proteins that keep skin firm and smooth. As the skin repairs, new tissue forms, improving texture and tone from within.

Some people try home microneedling kits, but I would advise against this as professional microneedling devices used in medical clinics reach precise, consistent depths, making them both safer and more effective.

The Science Behind Skin Renewal

It seems a bit mad but there is science to support this. Every puncture sets off a cascade of biological activity for repair and remodelling. Growth factors get activated and fibroblasts — the skin’s natural builders — start laying down fresh collagen fibres. Blood flow increases, delivering oxygen and nutrients to the skin’s surface and remodelling starts which leads to more collagen, particularly type 1 which gives skin tightening and flexibility. Over time, this process refines pores, smooths uneven patches, and creates a firmer, more luminous appearance.

Depth matters. Shallow needling (around 0.5 mm) helps improve tone and texture, while deeper treatments (up to 2.5 mm) are used to target scarring or more advanced signs of ageing. The treatment is fully customisable – this means we can adjust the microneedling to suit your needs and comfort level.

Safety and Medical Expertise

Your skin is being punctured, so it is essential the microneedling is done under sterile, clinical conditions to prevent infections and complications. At Refind Aesthetics, your safety is paramount. All treatments are doctor-led and carried out using medical-grade devices,  ensuring consistent results and minimising downtime.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Smoother Texture and Refined Skin

Microneedling can help refine skin texture. By stimulating natural collagen renewal, the skin becomes softer and more even, with visibly smaller pores and improved surface smoothness.

Reducing the Appearance of Fine Lines

Microneedling can help soften static fine lines. These are the lines that linger even when the face is relaxed. Rather than plumping the skin with the hyaluronic acid that’s in dermal fillers, microneedling actually strengthens the dermal structure from within, restoring elasticity and creating a smoother canvas without changing your facial expression. However, Refind Aesthetics is all about an holistic skin care procedure – so we do find many clients like to combine microneedling with other treatments as an effective method of improving the skin quality as well as tackling wrinkles.

Enhancing Radiance and Natural Glow

This is definitely an advantage of microneedling, by boosting circulation and cell turnover, microneedling revives tired complexions. This means the skin can look brighter, fresher, and more even.

Targeting Scars and Pigmentation – especially acne scars

Microneedling can help reduce mild acne scarring, uneven tone, and areas of pigmentation. The gentle resurfacing from below, encourages new, healthy skin cells to replace older, damaged ones producing a skin that feels clearer and revitalised.

Boosting Results with Exosome Support

For those seeking the next level in regenerative skincare, exosomes are an exciting development – we discuss these in our blog: What are Exosomes and How do they support skin renewal. These microscopic messengers, derived from advanced stem cell research, communicate with skin cells to promote repair and collagen synthesis. As a result, exosomes are combined with microneedling because they can enhance healing, amplify collagen production, and shorten recovery time. They are applied topically after treatment – the newly formed microchannels help the exosomes penetrate the epidermis so they can get to work. Together, microneedling and exosomes create a powerful yet natural synergy — helping skin rebuild itself from within.

However, exosomes are not right for every cleint and at Refind Aesthetics, the therapy is offered selectively, always under medical guidance and using clinically regulated products to ensure your safety and best interests are central to every treatment we offer.

Your Consultation and Skin Assessment

Your journey starts with a detailed consultation. We’ll assess your skin health, discuss your concerns, and determine the most effective approach for your goals. Every treatment plan is bespoke, built around your unique skin characteristics and preferred outcomes.

During Treatment: What to Expect

Although the needles used are fine and do not cause high pain levels – we always apply a topical numbing cream which is left to work for before we start the procedure. This ensures you are more comfortable during the procedure. Our medical-grade microneedling device is passed gently across the skin – as it goes across the skin surface it creates thousands of controlled microchannels. Most treatments take 30–45 minutes, but we will pace the whole process to match your tolerance levels.

Aftercare and Recovery

Your skin may look slightly flushed immediately after, similar to mild sun exposure.  This slight warmth or redness usually settles within a day or two. Make sure you factor this in when you book an appointment – especially if you have an important event coming up!

You’ll also receive aftercare advice tailored to your skin with advice that includes  hydration, gentle cleansing, and avoiding heat or vigorous activity for the first day.

Visible improvements appear within a week — skin feels smoother, looks brighter, and over time, gains a firmer, more refined texture.

Can I combine Microneedling with other treatments?

Most definitely. Indeed many of our clients chose this option.

Microneedling pairs beautifully with skin boosters or medical-grade serums that deeply hydrate and support collagen. These treatments can be layered into your plan to enhance glow and elasticity.

Microneedling is a extremely useful addition to your skincare journey and can form part of a broader skin plan including wrinkle-relaxing injections to target dynamic lines caused by muscle movement and dermal fillers restore lost volume. Combined thoughtfully, these treatments enhance harmony across the face while preserving your individuality.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

This is a progressive treatment and we usually advice a course of three to six sessions, spaced about a month apart. We have found this typically gives optimal results. After that, you should get a maintenance treatment every six to twelve months  as this helps to keep the collagen active and prolong your results.

What should I do after microneedling to maintaining Long-Term Skin Health

As with all our treatments – the best long-term results are supported with a consistent skincare routine — gentle exfoliation, nourishing serums, and daily SPF. We can give additional advice and recommendations for the best medical-grade skincare products to help preserve your investment. To find out more about recommendations for medical grade skincare products read our blog: Best Medical Grade Skincare Products for healthy, glowing skin.

Safety and Side Effects - What’s Normal and What’s Rare after microneedling

As we have said, it’s normal to experience mild redness, tightness, or sensitivity – they  are temporary and an integral part of the skin’s renewal process. Rare side effects, such as prolonged irritation or infection, are greatly reduced under doctor-led care with sterile technique – but should you have any concerns at any time – just contact us.
